My Picks!

I have decided to bring back something that I did several years ago. I have a wine rack setup at the front of the store in the middle aisle that has 13 wines that I selected for a quick pick up. Most of these wines I selected are ones I believe most of ya'll will enjoy by listening to what everyone has heen asking for. I have included a couple wines for the adventurous minds to try. I will be trying to change this up every month to have different offerings.

Also too, I have started an instragram account to make a quicker way to post pics of items in the store. My user name is kemahwineguy. I look forward to seeing all of ya'll following me on there. I also look forward to hearing from all of you to see what I can try to do for you.

La Flor Malbec Rose

I have been looking at the stock that is in the store and have been contemplating what would be something different and not a norm for what people have been asking me for.

Being that we are going into the infamous Texas summer, I thought I would show ya'll a Rose. Now, before you totally shut down on me, this isn't what you might think it is. Contrary to what we are used to in White Zinfandels and the likes, true Roses are dry...like their reds are. If you don't know, Roses are generally red grape varietals that have less skin contact then their respective red versions. It is the contact which gives it color, amongst other characteristics like structure from the tannins that are in the skin.

Now, I have found a Rose Malbec from Argentina that I think is a good introductory Rose, especially if you are like me and are a red wine drinker. La Flor Rose Malbec is perfect for those who still seek a fuller bodied wine but are interested in trying something new. Right up front on the nose and in the mouth, there is a burst of red and dark fruit but still holds nice structure and feel. It is a darker Rose which tell me that it does have longer skin contact which is told by the mouth feel.

This is definitely a wine that not only holds to easy comfort and bar food, but it will still hold nicely to a steak as well, remember it is still a malbec.

At under $14, it is definitely a wine that is worth experimenting with or enjoying over and over again.

Cubo Tempranillo

Looking for that everyday, not breaking the bank, easy to drink red? But are you looking for something other than the ordinary cab or merlot? Pick up a bottle of this little gem from Spain. This soft, fruit forward, easy to drink Tempranillo is definitely worth trying.  Under $12 a bottle will definitely save on the wallet for an everyday wine.

Block 515 Russian River Chardonnay

From the makers of our Block wines (Block 713 and 945 cabernets), comes this delectable chard. It burst forth grapefruit and honeysuckle but finishes with nice hints of toasted oak and vanilla. This is once again a treasure to be found amidst the multitudes of wines at under $15.
Remember to hurry and get a bottle because once this is gone, it is gone!

Phelps Innisfree Cabernet Sauvignon

From the maker of Insignia is this bottling of Cabernet. Story has it that the juice in the bottle is what the winemaker doesn't use for his Insignia blend.
This particular vintage that is in stock now is ripe in dark fruit, supple feel but balanaces with wonderfully fine tannins.
The price on this bottle doesn't do it justice at around $25. This is one of those wines that should be twice that amount.

Beacon Hill Chardonnay Estate

I am excited to tell ya'll about the newest addition to our shelves. It is the Beacon Hill Chardonnay Estate from Oregon. It is a true representation of the varietal. Very nice balance of fruit with nuetral oak in the mouth. We had the chance to taste this last week and I was very impressed with how the winery focuses on the varietal and not just the oak. This is a very fine find! I don't say that very often when it comes to whites because of my tendencies towards reds. It is priced at just over $30 a bottle. Come in and take a bottle home and see why I chose to bring this wine to the shelves!
